Intro:
A new eLearning tool was created by the Tasmanian Burns Unit, providing a platform for education of all disciplines within the Tasmanian Health System (THS)
Method:
A review of the existing eLearning for the Tas Burns Unit revealed that clinicians were struggling with long answer questions/assessment for TBSA and they requested additional modules such as wound care to be included. The RAH had recently completed a new eLearning and they kindly shared their modules with the unit. Modification was made to include paediatrics, referral & transfer, inhalation injury, and wound care- including facial burns management.
The platform used was Articulate Rise and support was provided from the THS eLearning team.
Junior and senior nursing, allied health and medical staff reviewed the package. In addition, it was shared with the RAH and RNSH for external review.
Results:
106 people have completed the eLearning since December 2024. 96% found it helpful to their practice and recommended the package to others. 67% were from the south of Tasmania and approximately 30% were from the North/NW. 72% were nurses with an even spread across allied health, medical, & ambulance/paramedics. Most clinicians had minimal experience prior to completing the package.
Recommendations:
Articulate Rise provides a platform that is interactive and easy to use, it allows the use of external links and knowledge checks are built into the system. In the future we hope to provide a portal so that Primary Health Tasmania can access the package to provide additional education to GPs and Practice Nurses, and consistent care statewide.
The Burns unit will continue to update and modify information and hope to extend the modules to include Diabetic Foot Burns, TENS and expand the Pain Management module into the future.
